Due to multiple requests from members of the media, we are posting the following statements from Santiago Lake’s family and their attorney, Brian Stewart of Parker & McConkie. Included in this post are the filed Complaint in Third District Court, Salt Lake County, as well as the Sandy Police Department’s redacted investigation report.

Family’s Statement

“The school failed us and failed our son.  Seeking accountability for such failures is necessary to keep our children safe while participating school activities. We believe our kids deserve better, and changes have to be made so this doesn’t happen again.”

Jimmy and Rossina Lake.

Attorney’s Statement

“Santiago suffered a life-altering brain injury as a result of Alta High School’s failure to put in place basic supervision and safety protocols to protect him and other student athletes.  The purpose of this action is to seek accountability from those responsible and to insist on changes that will reduce senseless violence in our schools and keep students safe.”

Brian C. Stewart, Parker & McConkie, Attorney for the Lake Family
