Richard N. M. Lambert is a seasoned trial lawyer with more than five decades of litigation experience in state and federal courts. Known for his meticulous preparation, skillful courtroom advocacy, and unwavering commitment to justice, Richard brings exceptional depth to Parker & McConkie’s litigation team and to the clients he represents.
Born in San Francisco and raised in the Bay Area, Richard graduated from Brigham Young University and earned his law degree from the University of Michigan Law School. He began his legal career as a Deputy District Attorney in Ventura County, California, where he prosecuted major crimes from 1972 to 1981. In 1981, he was appointed an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Utah. Over the next three decades, he served in key leadership roles—including Criminal Chief and Senior Litigation Counsel—while trying many of the region’s most complex and consequential cases.
Richard’s extensive case experience includes key roles in the Singer/Swapp prosecution, the Kiplyn Davis homicide case, the Brian David Mitchell prosecution arising from the Elizabeth Smart kidnapping, the Unabomber investigation, and the Valerie Clark Miller cold-case homicide. His work in these matters reflects his ability to manage high-stakes investigations, examine difficult facts, and advocate powerfully for victims and their families.
From 2010 to 2025, Richard continued to serve the community through pro bono representation, criminal defense work, anti-discrimination and harassment training, cold-case investigations, and advocacy for victims of violent crime. His long tenure in public service, combined with years of hands-on investigative and trial experience, gives him insight into every stage of a case—from early fact development to verdict.
Beyond his legal career, Richard has contributed extensively to historical preservation and community service. He serves as trustee and vice chairman of the Mormon Historic Sites Foundation and has been active in various historical and family-organization efforts. Richard also volunteers as a Church history tour guide and has served in numerous community and church leadership roles.
Richard is married to the former Mary Hayward, and they are the parents of six children.
