A devastating accident has left the Idaho Falls community grieving after a fatal ATV crash claimed the life of Trena Reinhart, 48, and left her husband, Laurence “Jason” Reinhart, 49, with serious injuries.
The couple, known for their love of the outdoors, had traveled to Arizona for a short vacation. On New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2024, their off-road vehicle collided with a vehicle on a highway, resulting in Trena’s tragic death at the scene. Jason was airlifted to a hospital in Las Vegas with severe injuries.
The Reinharts’ family described Trena as a compassionate and giving person who dedicated her life to helping others. For 17 years, she worked as an occupational therapist at Camp Hippo Pediatric Therapy in Blackfoot, Idaho, alongside her sister, Kris Jaques.
“Trena went above and beyond for the children and families she worked with,” Jaques said. “She gave so much of herself to help others succeed.”
Jason, who is back in Idaho Falls and undergoing rehabilitation, is facing a long road to recovery. He owns a concrete business, but it is uncertain if he will be able to return to work due to his injuries. A GoFundMe campaign has been established to help cover medical expenses and support the family during this challenging time.
The Reinharts were known for their adventurous spirit, spending time outdoors with their three sons and grandchildren. Their family and friends are now rallying around Jason as he works toward recovery and adjusts to life without Trena.
Safety Tips for ATV Operators and Drivers
- Use Designated Areas: Always operate off-road vehicles in designated areas and avoid crossing or traveling on busy roadways whenever possible.
- Prioritize Safety Gear: Ensure ATVs are equipped with reflective gear and lighting to enhance visibility, especially when riding near roads.
- Stay Alert and Vigilant: Whether driving a vehicle or operating an ATV, remain aware of your surroundings and anticipate potential hazards, especially in high-traffic areas.
