Parker & McConkie has been privileged to represent the family of Gabby Petito here in Utah. We have loved getting to know them and have been inspired by their dedication to using Gabby’s story to benefit others. We encourage everyone to watch American Murder: Gabby Petito, now streaming on Netflix. This powerful documentary sheds light on Gabby’s story and the devastating impact of domestic violence.
While Gabby’s case is uniquely compelling, her story is all too common. Too many lives are lost to intimate partner violence every year. By watching and discussing this documentary, you are helping to keep Gabby’s memory alive and bringing much-needed attention to the warning signs of abuse. We urge you to take action: support organizations working to protect victims, educate yourself and others on domestic violence, and speak up for those who may be suffering in silence. Together, we can turn awareness into action and work toward a future where no family has to endure such a tragedy.
For resources and ways to get involved, visit the Gabby Petito Foundation and other advocacy groups committed to ending domestic violence.
Statement from Gabby Petito’s mother, Nichole Schmidt, regarding Netflix’s new documentary series, American Murder: Gabby Petito.
“This was an opportunity for Gabby to be seen as a person and not just the headline or the girl behind the social media account.” said Schmidt. “We really just wanted to tell our story from our perspective, and I have to say, it was done beautifully. What we went through was horrific, but we have the experience, and we can use it to help as many people as we can.” Regarding the new Netflix series, Schmidt said, “You’re going see some new information and some things you haven’t seen before. They did a beautiful job of highlighting Gabby’s footage and some behind-the-scenes videos different from what we see on social media.”
“By constantly talking about Gabby, other people can align with her story. We hope it inspires to get out of a bad relationship or maybe recognize signs of domestic violence,” Schmidt explained. “I hope it’s saving lives. It makes us feel really good when we hear positive things from people because of what we’re doing so that’s why we keep going. When you watch the documentary, remember that this is a real person, this is a real family, it’s a real story and it’s real life. It’s not just true crime. This can happen to anyone. We never in a million years thought this would happen to our family. That’s why we’re trying to help people, so we can prevent this from happening to them.”
